        Regarding the latest EU customs tariff policy, I have a few things to clarify here. This policy is expected to take effect on July 1, 2026, and will completely eliminate the tariff exemption for goods under €150. All incoming parcels will be subject to a fixed tariff based on HS codes. Here are a few examples: Example 1: If the package contains only one T-shirt (a single HS code), the tariff will be €3. Example 2: If the package contains one T-shirt and one keychain charm (two different HS codes), the tariff will be €6. Example 3: Three T-shirts with the same HS code will be declared together, and the tariff will still be only €3. The above is a general overview of the new policy. The logistics provider I work with will collect this tariff and pay it to the authorities on my behalf and on behalf of my customers.

        As for this fixed tariff, my personal plan for now is to charge customers €2 and cover €1 myself. Since this fee structure is quite unusual, Shopify likely won't be able to set it up and collect it automatically at the moment, so I plan to use a more manual approach. For now, I've come up with two collection options: Option 1: I set up a special product priced at €2 on the website as a "tariff fee." Customers will need to select the corresponding number of this special item based on the categories of items they purchase, and the special item will be checked out together with the actual products in the order. Then, I will review each order manually in the backend to verify whether the number of special items matches the actual items purchased, and I will issue refunds or charge extra accordingly. Option 2: Customers don't need to select the special item themselves—I will manually add the corresponding tariff amount to the order in the backend. I plan to start with Option 2. If my workload becomes too overwhelming, I will consider switching to Option 1.

        Most Chinese logistics providers have already started implementing this policy since June 22, and they have been charging tariffs on parcels during this period in accordance with the policy. However, before the policy officially takes effect on July 1, some parcels may not be subject to the tariff (if they clear customs before the policy goes into effect). So, I plan to charge tariffs for parcels shipped before July 1 based on the shipping invoices I receive from the logistics provider afterward. There may also be a new policy taking effect on November 1, where EU customs could charge an additional service fee of around €2. I will post another announcement if there are further changes to customs policies in the future.

        The new tariff policy will affect pre-sale orders placed before July 1. For orders that have not yet been shipped, the tariff will be charged at the time of shipment. My guess is that this new tariff policy is mainly targeting various low-priced goods on Temu, and anime/merchandise items are just collateral damage.😅 I have to say, this is probably going to hit me pretty hard—orders from European countries make up a large portion of my website's sales......😓
